First Annual Apple Festival in Golden Gate Park

Come Celebrate the bounty and beauty of one apple tree.  Learn about the history and stewardship of this remarkable tree that mysteriously thrives in Golden Gate Park and come together to explore the question, "Why don't we grow more fruit in our parks?"

Date:  October 4, 2009, Sunday  10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

What to bring:  fruit pickers and ladders, blankets to sit on, containers for apples, your own eating utensils (some will be provided), favorite apple recipe and/or an apple dish to share.

Where:  The apple tree across the street from McLaren Lodge, at the edge of  the field between Kezar Drive and Stanyan Street.  http://tinyurl.com/ggpapple

Picnic under the apple tree, listen to live banjo music!  Share your enthusiasm and experience with others. Informal stations will be scattered about the tree.  Each will have a forum  facilitator to discuss such topics of interest such as:

- Fruit tree gleaning and foraging
- Community orchards concept
- Slow food/ local food movement
- Urban farms and homeless projects
- Fruit tree growing, care and resources, e.g.,. Rare Fruit Growers
- Permaculture: integrating wildlife habitat AND food growing


We’re going to make fresh apple juice and raw apple cobbler!
