Monthly Guild Gathering – Seed Politics and Seed Saving: Hands on and Beyond
Join us Wednesday, June 1st at 6:30 PM for an in-depth discussion on seed politics and saving, co-hosted by Antonio Roman-Alcala, from the Urban Permaculture Institute, and Aaron Dinwoodie, a farmer from Feral Heart Farm at the Sunol AgPark.
Are you passionate about seeds? Along with soil, seeds are the foundation for regenerative, biodiverse food systems. Maintaining seed genetic diversity and keeping seeds available for all are crucial tasks of permaculturists and other food systems change agents. In this presentation, farmer and seed saver Aaron Dinwoodie will joinpermaculture educator Antonio Roman-Alcalá in covering practical, hands-on info for growing and saving your own seeds, and exploring the political-ecological context for seed saving. With the increasing dominance of a few major economic players in the seed industry (even “Organic Certified”!), this presentation will prepare participants to create and spread more sustainable and just seed systems.
Gathering begins around 6:30 p.m. over food and networking – all are welcome to bring a potluck dish to share. Our guest speaker will begin around 7 p.m. and discussion usually runs until about 9 p.m. Prior to the meeting, from 5:30-6:30 p.m., the Guild Council meets to review business matters related to the guild. All are welcome to attend.
The Gazebo Room, California Pacific Medical Center, Davies Campus
The Gazebo is on the 1st floor of the South Tower. The South Tower is straight ahead as you enter the driveway. The driveway entrance is in the middle of Castro Street between 14th and Duboce Streets. You’ll see the entrance to the campus on your left. It’s the building that has the big lighted EMERGENCY ENTRANCE sign. If you enter on the ground floor, take the elevator UP to the first floor.
If you come by public transportation, take the N Judah to the Duboce Street stop and walk up towards Castro. If you drive, there’s a parking lot at the end of the driveway on your right, or you can try to find someplace on the street before entering the driveway.
